Dear reader, this is a reach out to you in a time where we are adrift in uncertainty, fear, frustration and divide.

No words can convey the heaviness we are all carrying as we watch everything we have garnered comfort from become wobby, like a slippery minnow escaping the hands of a child, reaching for his first catch.

Regardless of where you stand, your beliefs and the beating of your heart, you feel the raw pulling open of humanity that is causing us all to feel untethered.

I sometimes think that, as entrepreneurs who have chosen to carve our own path through the fields of opportunity that have laid fertile in front of us, we feel the unrest more acutely as it opens up our vulnerabilities and lays bare the risk we have assumed in the pursuit of fulfillment, impact and growth.

We're all seeking some hope.

Hope is the antidote to fear, and it's often the little shining firefly that can lead us from desperation to steadier ground. That little glimmer, that one tiny tunnel that shows a speck of light at its exit can be all we need to charge forward on our path.

And sometimes hope is absent. Or we can't see where it's hiding. And we think we can't move onwards without it.

We claw frantically at mindset mantras and affirmations of affluence, trying to find that hope so that we can get into action again. Sometimes it works, but often it's fleeting, just a shadow of a glimmer but inconsequential enough to sustain.

I read these words in an article the other day:

"Hope is the consequence of action."

The quote was attributed to Cornel West and Roberto Unger from their book on Progressivism.

It stopped me in my thoughts. What if we've got things all mixed up, and instead of waiting for the right frame of mind in order to get into action, that mindset is actually the product of action?

I floated this in my group program on Friday.

While we slide steadily into uncertainty, hope slipping through our fingers like windswept sand, maybe what we really need to do is stay in consistent action.

We can manufacture hope.

We talked this through and all agreed, because we've been here before (in fact, this group has been together long enough that some of us remember weathering COVID together), that our job right now is to stay in action.

Because one day - whether near or far - this ship will right itself.

And we get to decide if, when that happens, we're hanging off the bow, lifeless in our floaty... or if we've got our feet firmly positioned at the helm, ready to go full throttle into the calming seas.

Stay in action. Stay in forward motion. Let your work continue and stay committed to your plans.

You'll know when it's time to adjust, change course, or respond to the coming tidal waves.

This won't happen if you stow away in the depths of the galley, hoping to hide long enough to weather the storm.

This is the time to immerse yourself in community, to share ideas and strategies, and to be one step ahead, powered by momentum.

Invest in your growth, and crowdsource your stability.

Hope is fuel, and you are the one to make it.
